In 2023, voters in Shawnee elected to renew two sales tax initiatives to provide funding for future City Infrastructure projects. Voters approved a renewal of "Parks and Pipes", a 1/8 cent citywide sales tax that is specifically designated for building and improving City parks and trails as well as improvements to the stormwater drainage system. On the same ballot, voters approved the renewal of the "Pavement" sales tax. This 3/8 cent sales tax will be used to fund improvement and repairs to our City streets, curbs, and sidewalks

While the "Parks and Pipes" (1/8 cent) sales tax was scheduled to sunset on December 31, 2025, the renewed tax will now sunset on December 31, 2035.

The "Pavement" (3/8 cent) sales tax was scheduled to sunset on March 31, 2025, the renewed tax will now sunset on March 31, 2035.
2025 Property Tax (Mill Levy) Total

The total mill levy for City of Shawnee residents is comprised of several taxing authorities. This also includes one of the three school districts that are also in the city boundaries of Shawnee. Special Assessment Tax
Shawnee handles special assessments for streets and sidewalks. Affected property owners may at their option pay the assessment in its entirety in one lump sum by a set date or allow the assessment to be put on the property tax rolls and spread over a 10-year period with interest. The City may also issue special assessments for codes enforcement if a property owner fails to cut his lawn after notification by the City and the property is subsequently mowed by the City.
